Artist: Alainco

From: Dakar, Senegal

The members of the Baye Fall (Baay Faal in Wolof) dress in colourful ragged clothes, wear their hair in dreadlocks which are called ndiange ("strong hair"), which they decorate usually with homemade beads, wire or string. Music and dance is a huge part of their culture - several Baye Fall are well-known musicians.

They also regularly carry clubs, and often work as security guards. Women usually are covered in draping coverings and occasionally are known to wear highly decorative handmade jewelry made from household or natural items. In modern times the hard labor carried out by Baye Falls is often replaced by members roaming the streets asking for financial donations for their marabout (spiritual leader).

IMPORTANT: Upon very close inspection, there are some areas with minor cracks in the paint, which occurred whilst the painting was in transit between Senegal and the UK. It is ready to pin up or drape. If the buyer wants the canvas to be mounted onto canvas stretcher bars, this has to be organised separately by the buyer and usually costs £30+ to be mounted professionally, depending on the canvas size.
